Over a year ago I ordered some liquid watercolors from Dick Blick. They are extremely bright and vibrant, and I intended to use them at some point in an art class for kids. But they’ve been sitting in their box unused, and I got a sudden inspiration to pull them out yesterday.
One of my art journal books had a project using ink to dye Japanese rice paper. I decided to try to modify and use my liquid water colors and paper towels! The results were juicy and delicious, and I had lots of messy fun turning plain old paper towels into bright abstract art.
But the real fun came when I glued the paper towel into my art journal and discovered that it made the most wonderful textured background–it was like fabric or canvas. One thing led to another, and the result was Wild Thing–one of my favorite art journal pieces to date!
